Landslides along M’luru-B’luru rail track a major hazard

Mangaluru, July 09, 2019: Landslide occurring at unpredictable points along the railway track Mangaluru to Bengaluru through the Western Ghats during the SW Monsoons on the west coast each year, is now a night mare.

Since the creation of this railway track, landslides had never occurred to this extent. Siribagilu, Yedakumari, Kadagarahall, Donigal areas are more prone.  It is a major challenge for the Railway to clear  the tracks and prevent such landslides and keep the tracks safe and usable.   

In 2018, torrential rain had caused landslides at 65 locations along the Sakhleshpur – Subrahmanya stretch because of which all train movement was stopped. The hills on either sides of the track are still in their damaged state and if there are heavy rains then random landslides are to be expected. ......without warning.
