Mangaluru, Mar 31, 2016: A poor family living at Shimanthoor village near Mulki which has alleged that  officials and influential  locals were trying to grab the 13 cents of land which is remaining with it after it  had let enough land for the construction of a temple in the village, has now threatened to commit suicide enmasse if justice was not delivered.

Shimanthoor land dispute

The family has already complained to  the  Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court and other authorities.

It is said that one Ramesh Kunder who had purchased a site from a relative about a year ago had planned to construct a house. Almost the same time, the task of constructing a road under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana was taken up. It is said  some influential locals and gram panchayat members were hell bent upon acquiring Kunder’s land  for the road laying despite his plea against it. Kunder states that permission has been granted after land conversion for construction of a house. It is also alleged that Kunder has been served a notice under Section 133 of Criminal  Procedure Code.

Unable to bear the harassment,  the family of Kunder has now  threatened suicide. The complainant Jalaja Bai, the elder in Kunder’s family has stated that State Minister Abhayachandra Jain, DC, Tahsildar and PDO will be responsible in case her family decided to commit suicide enmasse. The complainant has also stated that the DC who visited them recently has assured justice.

It has been gathered that Ramesh Kunder’s parents had donated as much as 58 cents  land out of the 85 cents owned by them for the construction of a temple.

It is learnt, Ramesh Kunder who works as a labourer  had to take care of his mentally ill father, aged mother, wife, daughter and an aunt.

Samithi states otherwise :
The Shimanthoor Nagarika Hitarakshana Samithi which convened a press meet here on March 31, Thursday has alleged that the family had unlawfully converted the land meant for road under its name   despite the fact that the land was already donated to the temple by one of its senior members.

The Samithi has also said that the family should allow  to construct the road on the said land itself. When told that the family had relevant records to prove that the land belonged to it, the Samithi office bearers said even in that case there was no other alternative but to lay a road on the said land itself.
