Lady Goschen’s new building: New opening date is November 1

Mangaluru, July 28, 2017: A latest report says that the new building of the Government Lady Goschen Hospital here is likely to be fully functional from November 1.

The construction of the building, which was taken up in 2011 by bringing down a major portion of the old building, has been plagued by delays and thus has caused inconvenience to patients because of crammed space.

Talking media, J.R. Lobo, MLA and member of Aarogyaraksha Samiti of the Government Wenlock and Government Lady Goschen Hospitals, said all pending works of the new building are likely to be over by October and it would be functional from November 1. “We will try to adhere to the deadline,” Mr. Lobo said.

This building is being constructed using Rs. 21 crore provided by ONGC-MRPL.

The State government has sanctioned Rs. 10 crore for completing the pending works.

An official from the Karnataka Health System Development and Reform Project (KHSDRP) said that after Nirmiti Kendra handed over the physical structure of the building, works were taken up at a cost of Rs. 10 crore. These works are likely to be completed by August.

The official said bids have been called for pending works amounting to Rs. 3 crore out of Rs. 21 crore. These pending works include doing few partitions on the fifth floor of the new building and construction of ramps.

“We hope to finish works and make the new building fully functional from November 1,” the official said.

MLA Lobo said the master plan of various development works taken up in the Government Wenlock Hospital has been prepared.

While the Kasturba Medical College was taking up construction of a 270-bed super specialty block, the State government was constructing a new 176-bed medical block.

A 50-bed Ayush Hospital was also coming up in the premises.

MLA Lobo said all these new buildings will be built per the master plan prepared to have synergy between the old structure and the new buildings. A committee headed by DK DC  has been formed to oversee the works taken up in the hospital, he added.
