Lady Goschen maternity shifted to new building pending opening

Mangaluru, July 15, 2018: The maternity ward of the Lady Goschen Hospital old building has been shifted to the new building pending official  inauguration.

 

 

 

As the roof of the old building was leaking, the ward was shifted to the new building. Accordingly, 28 puerperal women have been shifted to the new building.

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance Chairman M Veerappa Moily visited Lady Goschen Hospital on July 14, Saturday evening and inspected the new building.

Explaining about the new building, Hospital Superindent Dr Savitha said the maternity ward has been shifted to the new building pending the inauguration.

As per the direction of DK DC Sasikanth Senthil, the outpatient ward started functioning from the new building on a pilot basis from March 21. The beds were placed on the corridors for the puerperal women in the old building of Lady Goschen Hospital. As the roof started leaking, all the 28 beds from the corridor were shifted on an urgency basis to the new building.

Lokayukta Justice P Vishwanath Shetty had visited the hospital recently and had written to the state government to shift the wards from old building to the new building.  The officials in the hospital informed the same to the committee members and said that a few more wards will be shifted shortly to the new building.

The MRPL, under its CSR activity, had given Rs 21.5 crore for the construction of new building to Lady Goschen Hospital. Now, the MRPL has paid Rs 1.5 crore for the purchase of beds. A sum of Rs 5 crore is required for setting up a full-fledged ICU in the new building of the hospital.  MRPL MD Venkatesh, in turn, promised the standing committee to release the required amount.

Dr Savitha said that there is a need for 30 incubators, seven ICU ventillators, eight ventiltors for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 13 beds for puerperal and pregnant women in the ICU. The demand has already been placed for the purchase of equipment and all the required equipment are likely to be supplied shortly, she added. Dr Savitha said that the KMC is providing the service of 100 doctors and 50 nurses to the Lady Goschen Hospital.

After demolishing the old building of Lady Goschen Hospital, a 60-bed capacity Mother and Child Hospital will be built. The first phase of the work has already commenced. The standing committee members inspected the work as well.  In addition, the 11  member team visited the neonatal ICU, maternity ward, and collected information.
