The function at the zilla panchayat was to observe International Women’s Day. The official said that as there was no audience at the function, and was asked  to get some participants of the exhibition.
A three-day exhibition and sale of consumer products, made by women entrepreneurs, began at the Stree Shakthi Bhavan.  Organised by the Department of Women and Child Welfare, the exhibition displays and sells  home-made food products, ornaments, clothes and other products.

A home-maker from Bejai, has displayed terracotta (made from a superior quality of soil) earrings and necklaces. She said that she learnt how to make it about a year ago and has brought them for sale for the first time in the annual exhibition organised by the government.

A school teacher, had brought home-made food products  like ‘happala’ of palak, carrot, sweet potatoes and so on.  She made chocolates from jaggery, black pepper and ginger. Another chocolate had honey covered with maida coating, she said.

Another lady from Baltila had also brought home-made food products.  ‘Chattambade’ which has a shelf life  up to 20 days,  and  ‘Kanile Happala’ (from tender shoots of bamboo) which was another special product.

The hapless women are mere pawns and puppets in the hands of high officials.
