Labourer’s death: contractor booked

Mangaluru, Dec 3, 2014: The Mangalore Rural police on Tuesday booked a contractor on the charge of negligence following the death of a 25-year-old labourer on Monday.

Mangal died after he was trapped in a heap of mud that caved in at the site of the road underbridge being constructed at the Padil-Bajal railway level crossing around 8 p.m.

The police said that the work was entrusted to Vijay Infra Project Private Ltd. and the firm had given the fabrication work to Kumar under whom Mangal and seven other labourers worked.

The police said Kumar had not taken precautions for the safety of the labourers.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel had a tough time removing Mangal from the heap. The earth was loose and there was underwater current. Mangal’s body was removed around 3 a.m.
