The tanker had gone out of control and toppled while negotiating a curve in an remote forest area at Kappalli near Sakleshpur in the National Highway and slipped down the road to almost fifty feet below the road level.  The gas leakage from the tank is a concern worrying the officials. Police and Fire Service personals had reached the location in time and are managing the situation. The disaster management team from the Oil Company is camping at the location to salvage the vehicle and the control gas leakage.

Oil company officials expressed concern that since the smell of the gas had already permeated within a radius of about 3 kilometres, danger could not be ruled out. As a precautionary measure, the officials blocked the traffic on Shiradi ghat road for two days.

However, police have managed to control the vehicles movements and diverted the traffic to alternative routes.
