Kundapur, Dec 02, 2019: Sampath D Kharvi, a first B.Com student of Bhandarkar’s College has won laurels by swimming a distance of 24 kms in the Panchagangavali river with his chained legs.
On Sunday he began his adventure in the river near the Basrur Railway Bridge at around 2 pm and reached the Gangolli fisheries jetty which is about 24 kms away, at 5.05 pm.
Gangolli SI Vasappa Naik removed the locks of his chained legs after Kharvi reached his destination. Another chain was removed by Dr Vijayshanker. Later Yuva Brigade honoured Sampath. He is the son of Devaraya Kharvi-Sanjeeva couple of Kharvikeri.
Devaraya Kharvi along with Subrahmanya, Harish and Ranjith too swam along with Sampath as a precautionary measure.
The feat of this young boy has been praised by one and all. Sampath was trained in swimming by his father and his uncles. He has been training rigorously since three months for this feat and plans to swim by chaining his hands along with his legs and make an attempt to enter India Book of Records and Guinness World Record.
