Kundapur, July 15, 2016 : On July 14, Thursday there was a unique protest at the Kodapadi Government Primary School. It was a protest by the school students who were strongly opposed to the transfer of the headmistress who was also the favourite of all students of the school.
Students also raised slogans and urged the authorities concerned to cancel the transfer of the teacher. The school has nearly 50 students and three teachers. Following some indications that Girija who has been serving the school for nearly 17 years would be transferred, students and parents expressed their anguish and decided to stage a protest.
It is learnt as per government rules a school upto 60 students can have only two teachers. Moreover, it is said Girija along with locals had struggled to increase the student strength in the school over the years.
The Byndoor Education Officer Nagesh Nayak who arrived later said the teacher was transferred as per the government rules. However, the protestors were unrelenting with parents stating that they will send their children to other schools if the headmistress was transferred.
Elected representatives from local panchayat also visited the school on hearing about the protest.
