Kundapur : One dead as soil caves in during well work

Kundapur, Dec 07, 2018: One person lost his life while three others had a miraculous escape when  soil from the upper portion of a well caved in while  undertaking works inside a large well belonging to Satish Hegde at  a place called Halli in Aloor village of Kundapur on December 6, Thursday.

The deceased  is Gopal Mogaveera (32) of Aloor Basavanajeddu. He was an Ayyappa Vrithadhari. Six to seven labourers were engaged in the well works since the past several days. The well water was also drained out to facilitate the work.  It is said the soil caved in due to excess moisture and  the debris fell over Gopal, Chandra Poojary and Shekhar Poojary. Even the owner Satish Hegde who was standing above fell  down. However  Gopal lost his life as he was buried under a huge mound of soil. It took almost three hours to extricate his body from under the debris.

A few relatives of the deceased allege that the use of explosives during the work might have loosened the soil.
