Kundapur : Illegal sand extraction sites raided ; 81 labourers arrested, owners flee

Kundapur, Feb 07, 2018: A team  of officials led by Kundapur Assistant Commissioner Bhoobalan along with the Brahmavar Police raided as many as eight illegal sand extraction sites at Handady near Brahmavar on February 7, Wednesday. As many as 25 boats and nine tippers were seized from the spot. Nearly 81 labourers most of them from Uttar Pradesh  were arrested.

Meanwhile, owners of the sand  extraction sites, all of them Gram Panchayat members namely Karunaker Shetty, Timmappa  Shetty, Basava, Dinesh Salian, Philip, Prasanna, Raviraj, Sarvottam and Sadashiva  managed to escape.

Though all of them had earlier possessed license, the same stood cancelled owing  to some technical reasons.
