Kundapur: Hindu activists assaulted in Kandlur; 3 arrested

Kundapur, Oct 16, 2015:  Two persons sustained serious injuries when a group of men belonging to one particular community targeted Dalits belonging to a Hindu outfit at Kandlur on October 14, Wednesday night. Tension prevailed in the area following the incident.

The injured namely Vijay Kumar and Manjunath (34) of Balkur  have been hospitalised. The two were reportedly assaulted after they were returning home after putting up banners and buntings for the  50th Sharadotsava celebrations in their village and after having dinner at  the residence of one of their friends.
Police have succeeded in arresting three of the accused  namely Mohammad Subhan (25), Mohammad Nadeem (19) and Shahid Ali (28). Search is on for the other absconding persons.

It  has been learnt that Shahid was a businessman while Nadeem was  a hotelier at Sagar.

MP Shobha meets victims:  Shobha Karandlaje, MP of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency   met the victims undergoing treatment in the hospital on October 15, Thursday. She strongly condemned the assault and charged the government of totally failing to prevent such incidents from taking place. She demanded immediate action against the guilty.

The Udupi district unit of the VHP too has condemned the assault. Gayatri Nayak, Tahsildar of Kundapur also visited the hospital.

Meanwhile, security has been stepped up in Kandlur to avert any untoward incidents. All bars and restaurants in the town have also been asked to down shutters by  7 pm. Senior police officials including Kundapur DySP Manjunath Shetty,  Circle Inspector Diwaker and  others visited the town.
