The injured student is Sunray D’Souza hailing from Koni. It is said the assailants waylaid his bike and attacked him on mid-road. The assailants  had later dumped D’Souza near a temple at Katkeri.

It is believed that the attack was the result of a fracas that broke out during a flood-lit Kabaddi tourney held at Hunsemakki on February 28, wherein D’Souza was the  line umpire. Sources said the clash was over the issue of  awarding points to a particular team. It has been gathered that some youth who were not happy with teh decision given by D’Souza during the match might have  chosen to attack him.

In his complaint to the police, D’Souza said Ranjith, an old student of his college had encouraged him to take his bike to Hunsemakki and the possibility was that Ranjith had tipped off the attackers who followed him, waylaid him and then attacked him.

Further investigations are underway.
