Kundapur : Cops bust mystery behind suspicious death of married woman; arrest duo

Kundapur, Dec 4, 2015 :  The case of suspicious death of  Usha Shetty (33), a resident of Nechhur in Kandavara village,  has now been confirmed as a case of murder with the arrest of two persons who had reportedly killed her.

It may be recalled here that the decomposed body of Usha was found on the banks of river Seetha  at Gummola-Halniru in Belve Gram Panchayat limits on December 30, Monday. Those arrested are  Vishwanath Naik (34) and Karunaker.

Udupi SP Annamalai who spoke to reporters here on December 3, Thursday informed that  the post-mortem report had revealed that  Usha was murdered almost a week earlier and that injury marks were spotted on her face and head.

He also stated that  investigations revealed that Usha who worked in a cashew factory was in touch with seven persons and all of them were taken into custody when the role of Vishwanath in the case stood exposed.

The SP further said Vishwanath, a mason was in touch with Usha since  eight years  and was also  offering her financial assistance and that Usha who was separated from her husband five years ago was pressurising him to construct a house for her.

Investigations also revealed that Vishwanath had stopped funding Usha  recently and  following a quarrel between the two  he decided to eliminate her once for all with Karunaker’s help.

On November 23, Vishwanath with a view to kill Usha had invited her to his new house at Halniru. It is learnt, he had even invited Karunaker and  both reportedly had sex with Usha. Soon after, there ensued a quarrel between Vishwanath and Usha and  Vishwanath reportedly hit her head with a  heavy stone killing her on the spot. He had then removed her ornaments  and the two dumped the body on the banks of river Seetha.

Usha’s two children stayed with her mother, while she used to reside in the factory quarters. However when there was no information about Usha and even her cell phone remained switch off after November 23, ever since she joined work after her Diwali holiday, her family tried to locate her but in vain.

The police have seized the  ornaments which Usha was wearing and was taken away by Vishwanath thinking them to be gold ornaments. Police said the ornaments were artificial. Apart from them, a Rico watch and two cell phones and a cash Rs 10,190 has been seized from the duo.
