Kumta Gas tanker tragedy: Two more dies taking toll to seven

Kumta: September 4, 2015: Two more person succumbed to burn injuries suffered in the LPG tanker explosion near Kumta taking the death toll to seven.

Dheeraj, 25 and Pramila- 30 succumbed to burns in the afternoon on Friday. While three more are in critical condition, according to the doctors of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, the others have shown considerable improvement. Fourteen persons with burn injuries from the accident were brought to the hospital on September 1.

On Thursday, Shakila Gangadhara Haritantra, 35 and Srikantha Sheshu Patagara, 57, had succumbed to burns injuries. Srikantha is the husband of Jayashree, who died on Wednesday. One of their son, Bharath had also died on Wednesday. With this death, five members of a family have died in this accident. Their house was the first one to bear the brunt of the fire.

Minister for Higher Education R V Deshpande and Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj visited the patients on Friday morning. The relatives of the patients said they were satisfied with the care given at the hospital. Deshpande and Pramod interacted with the patients who are recovering and their relatives.
