Kuloor old bridge on NH-66 to be closed from March 16

Mangaluru, March 15, 2020: The old bridge across Phalguni river on NH 66 at  Kuloor will be closed for repair works from March 16. Deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh in an order issued on March 13, has banned the movement of all vehicles on the old bridge. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has plans to repair the old bridge, which is in a deteriorating condition. The repair works of the bridge will be taken up by G S Arad Constructions. It is necessary to ban the movement of the vehicles to facilitate the repair works.

A spot inspection in this regard was conducted by the Mangaluru City Police and suggested that alternative routes can be arranged for the convenience of public, the DC said.

The one-way new bridge at Kuloor will be made two-way till the repair works are completed. Light vehicles, buses and trucks (six wheels) on Mangaluru -  Udupi route will be allowed to ply on the new bridge. Meanwhile, all types of heavy trucks including containers, bullet tankers, cranes and trailers will not be allowed to ply on the new bridge. Heavy trucks from Udupi to Bengaluru will have to take diversion via  Padubidri – Karkala route. Meanwhile, heavy trucks from Udupi to Mangaluru will have to take diversion via Mulky – Kinnigoli – Moodbidri route or Haleyangadi – Kinnigoli – Moodbidri – Surathkal – Bajpe route.

All precautions will be taken to prevent accidents on the new bridge. Divider cones, barricades and sign boards will be placed at all identified spots, the DC stated in the order.
