Mangaluru, Oct 8, 2015: A legislator from Akkalkot constituency in Solapur district in Maharashtra who was spotted performing a Ganapathy Pooja on the banks of Kumaradhara River at Subrahmanya on October 8, Thursday morning, was forced to stop the ritual after officials of the Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple arrived at the spot and told him that it was illegal to hold a pooja outside the temple.
The MLA named Siddharam Satlingappa was performing the pooja with his family members reportedly as per the advice of his priest Siddeshwara.
Kukke Temple’s in-charge CEO Ravindra said poojas are allowed to be performed only inside the temple premises and not ouside. The MLA was later summoned to the Subrahmanya Police Station where he furnished a bond stating that henceforth he would not perform pooja outside the temple.
There is information that two more families from Shivamogga performing Navagriha pooja to ward off Sarpa Dosha by making a homa kunda of sand were also prevented by the authorities.
