Kudroli, Mangaladevi Dasara celebrations concludes

Mangaluru, Oct 24, 2015 :Colourful procession of idols and tableaux along with dances by various folk artistes marked the end of the nine-day long Dasara celebrations at the Kudroli Gokarnanatheswara Temple and the Mangaladevi Temple on October 23, 2015 - Friday. The procession was led by Payyattam Chendevadyam Kalavidar, a Chende team from Kannur in Kerala, which was headed by Prakash. 

The team has been participating in every Shivarathri and Navarathri celebrations at the Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara Temple for the past 30 years. It was followed by band, vadyam and colorful umbrellas which doubled the glory of the procession.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the colourful procession, the idol of ’Aadipoojita’ Lord Ganapati was followed by the idols of Brahmashri Narayanaguru, Goddesses Aadhishakthi, Shailaputhri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmandini, Skanda Matha, Kaathyayini, Mahakaali, Mahagowri and Siddidhathri. The idol of Goddess Sharada was the last to leave the temple premises.

 Enthusiastic people participated in large numbers in the two processions that went on till the early hours of Oct 24.  There will be another procession to mark the Dasara celebration on the Car Street on October 24, Saturday evening.   The idols will be immersed in Pushkarini, the temple pond.

The procession of Navadurga idols and tableaux as a part of ‘Shobha Yatra’ was behind the schedule at the Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara Temple. It took nearly three hours to perform puja to each of the Durga idols installed at the temple and then put them on the vehicles dresed up like ’rathaas’ chariots.  The mood of the entire Port City was set to Mangaluru Dasara The main roads of the city were decorated with electric bulbs and banners. Roadside vendors were busy selling Paanipuri, Churumuri, balloons and ice-cream as people with kids headed towards the Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple to witness the beauty of the grand procession of the Navaratri celebrations.

Senior Congress leader B. Janardhana Poojary felicitated a host of people, including district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai and Health Minister U.T. Khader. The process of idols and tableaux started around 7.30 p.m.  After passing the Kudroli temple, the procession passed thorough Mannagudda, Lalbagh, PVS Circle, Hampankatta, University College, Ganapati High School Road and Alike. The procession was expected to end after 6 a.m. today.

At Mangaladevi :  People gathered joyfully in large numbers to witness the procession of the Mangaladevi Temple. The idol of Mangaladevi was taken from the temple to Marnamikatta, which is about nearly a Km from the temple.

 

 

 

 A tableau of Hulivesha (men dancing by painted like tigers) and other tableaux depicting various cultural forms of the region led the procession. The last in the procession was the chariot carrying the idol of Mangaladevi.
