Mangaluru, Apr 09, 2017: Kudla Express is now a reality. The long awaited Tri-Weekly Express from Mangaluru Junction to Yeshwantpur was flagged off by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu through a video conference from Panjim in Goa. The train will travel on the Hassan, Shravanabelagola route. The Minister also dedicated to the nation the Mangaluru to Chervattur electrified section measuring 82 kms, double line between Panambur and Jokatte, the new Railway Station at Jokatte as well as the Thokur Siding.
Union Minister for Statistics and Implementation D V Sadananda Gowda who was the chief guest at a ceremony held in this connection said the dedication of Kudla Express was a dream come true. He also said 24 out of the 26 trains announced during his tenure as Railway Minister have become a reality.
He said the Kudla Express would benefit many and assured of steps to see that in the future the train has Mangaluru Central as its starting point.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel who was present as a chief guest, also hoped that Kudla Express would commence its journey from Mangaluru Central in the days to come.
District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai, MLA of Mangaluru South JR Lobo, also spoke. Mayor Kavitha Sanil, MLC and Chief Whip of Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza, MLC Capt. Ganesh Karnik, ZP Chief Meenakshi Shantigodu, Deputy Regional Manager of Mysuru Division Atul Gupta, DRM of Palakkad division Naresh Lalwani, DRM of Konkan Railway Mohammed Asin Sulaiman and others were present.
Kudla Express has 14 compartments including four second class chair cars, eight general second class and two second class luggage-cum-brake van apart from a compartment meant for handicapped.
The train no 16576 will leave Mangaluru at 11.30 am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and reach Yeshwanthpur at 8.30 pm via Bantwal, Kabaka Puttur, Subrahmanya Road Station, Sakleshpur, Hassan, Chennarayapattana, Shravanabelagola, BG Nagara, Yediyur, Kunigal, Nelamangala and Chikkabanavara.
Similarly Train No 16575 will leave Yeshwantpur on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.50 am and reach Mangaluru at 5.30 pm.
