Udupi, Oct 09, 2014:  Briefing the media,  Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station (Brahmavar) Associate Director Dr M Hanumanthappa informed that the Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Brahmavar, in association with Agricultural Diploma College (Brahmavar), Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station (Ullal), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Brahmavar), Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Watershed Department, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture Fisheries and Forestry will be organising a two-day ‘Krishi mela’,  October 11 and 12.

The premier objective of the mela is the transfer of knowledge about developing agricultural technology.  Through demonstrations, discussions, field visits, seminars, interactions and so on, the  innovations will be passed on. The mela will provide farmers a platform to solve their field problems too, he added. 

The mela will be inaugurated by Urban Development Minister Vinaya Kumar Sorake. MP Shobha Karandlaje will inaugurate the exhibition. ZP President Savitha Kotian will inaugurate Agricultural Diploma College in the campus. Besides, three seminars will be organised on ‘Cultivation of the horticultural crops’, ‘Profit oriented integrated farming system’ and ‘Scope for mechanization in agriculture’. The seminars will be attended by Department Heads of Agriculture and other allied Departments, Directors of Research and Extension wing of UAHS, Scientists from ICAR Research Institutes, Zonal Agricultural Research and Horticultural Station, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and progressive farmers as well as subject matter specialists.

Dr Hanumanthappa said that about 125 stake holders are expected to put up their stalls to showcase the agriculture technologies and recent farm machineries. The expo will comprise of high yielding rice varieties and seed production, preparation of Dapog nursery and SRI method of paddy cultivation, CO-4 Fodder grass demonstration, multi storied cropping system and nutrient management in coconut, cashew grafting, vermi compost and azolla dairy, poultry, goat, rabbit duck and fisheries demo units. Much interest is expected to be generated.
