Kasargod, Sep 10 2015: Police have reportedly identified one of the robbers responsible for the huge theft of 21 kg gold ornaments and Rs 13 lakh cash during broad daylight from the Eriyal branch of Koodlu Service Co-operative Bank recently.
It is said the accused is from Neerchal and was reportedly spotted by a labourer and a security staff of a firm located close by the bank.
It has been gathered that the police plan to release the sketch of this person very soon. Sources also revealed that this particular accused was reported missing from his hometown almost three days before the robbery took place.
Meanwhile the bank officials who have verified the remaining pledged gold in the bank, have informed that the gold pledged by 905 people are missing while the jewellery of 146 persons are safe in the bank. The list of names of the people whose jewellery are safe has been put up in the bank and the jewellery weighed 4.5 kg.
Different police teams are busy in investigation. While one time is in Karnataka, another is concentrating its probe in Kasargod district itself while yet another team of cops in civil dress is also trying to get some information discretely.
In another development, North Zone ADGP N Shanker Reddy visited the town to know about the progress in investigation and held talks with SP Dr A Srinivas and DySP TP Ranjith who heads the investigation.
The ADGP also visited the bank and inspected documents. Top officials including DySP(Crime) K Damodaran, Special Branch DySP M B Sukumaran, DySP(Administration) P Tamban, narcotics cell DySP Premraj and others were present.
