Konkan Railway track doubling works to begin Nov 8

Mangaluru, Nov 08, 2015: Speaking on the sidelines of railways review meeting by DK MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Konkan Railway’s Regional Railway Manager Bindu Muralidharan said that the electrification of the Konkan network will be undertaken simultaneously between Roha and Thokur in Karnataka from November 8. The Konkan Railway has been a single track since its inception. In the second phase, the work on doubling of track from Thokur to Baindur is likely to be taken up. The project cost of doubling and electrification of Konkan Railway network is Rs 10,600 crore.

Konkan Railway...The works on doubling of  Konkan Railway network will be flagged off from Roha in Western Maharashtra to Veer on  November 8, said Konkan Railway’s Regional Railway Manager Bindu Muralidharan.

Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager Anand Prakash said that doubling of Panambur -Jokatte stretch covering six km is likely to be commissioned in March. The doubling work on the 19-km stretch from Mangaluru Junction-Panambur section is likley to be delayed due to the existence of 750 metre tunnel mid-way. The work is likley to take two years to complete. .

The DM said the rail electrification work between Shoranur and Mangaluru is progressing.  The non-availability of power in Kerala has become a major concern for the Railway to test the electrified route. The Kerala Electricity Board is unable to supply the required power to energise the lines. Five of the six sub-stations on the Shoranur-Mangaluru line are in Kerala and one is in Thokur in Mangaluru. The electrification upto Kallayi has been completed. The wiring is being completed upto Kannur. The wiring from Kannur to Mangaluru is in progress.
