Konkan Railway to open new station at Mirjan in Uttara Kannada

Mangaluru, Aug 20, 2016: It is reported that the Union minister for railways Suresh Prabhu, understanding the inconvenience and hardships being faced by people staying in and around Mirjan in Karwar of Uttara Kannada district, laid the foundation stone for a new station there. This new station is situated between Gokarna and Kumta stations of Konkan Railway at 548.48kms, adjacent to the NH 66. The new station reduces distance between stations from present 19.091kms to 11.54km from Gokarna.

This station will be constructed at a total cost of Rs 12.45 crore. Once this station is commissioned, it will serve Bargi, Betkeli, Kodkani, Paduvani, Kimani, Divagi, Nagur and Ramnagar villages. At present, commuters at Mirjan are dependent either on Gokarna or Kumta Railway stations for their conveyance to Mumbai, Bengaluru, for which they have to travel a lot by road both by taxi/ bus as there is no direct connectivity. Kumta station is 7.552-kms from Mirjan.

The proposed Mirjan station will have passenger amenities such as platforms, waiting hall, current ticket booking counter, covered platform shelter. With construction of this station, it will help in development of adjacent areas and improve communication as well as connectivity amongst adjoining villages. Konkan Railway believes in providing better passenger amenities to its passengers for their comfort, safety, development and improvement in operations.
