Mangaluru, Apr 10, 2016: Addressing a gathering at a meeting organised by Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Apr 9, Saturday,  KRCL CMD Sanjay Gupta noted that the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd will construct 11 new railway stations and eight loop lines along its 740-km track network in order to enhance line capacity and facilitate handling more trains. The corporation is awaiting the nod for above proposals that are in the final stages of sanction by the Railway Board. These eight stations were identified at the time of constructing the Konkan Railway route,

Sanjay Gupta CMD said the corporation did not construct 20 stations at identified locations during the construction period as there was no traffic. However, the growth of traffic manifold times in the recent past has given rise to the need to construct these stations, he said adding KRCL will start the work as soon as it receives the nod.

The ideal distance between two stations on a single-line network such as KRCL should be 8-10kms for easier train movements normally, CMD  Sanjay said it is 13kms in KRCL with the longest being 19km between Kumta and Gokarna Road. The average distance will come down to around 11-km once these 11 stations are built, he said adding the corporation will meet the ideal distance of 8-kms once all the 20 stations as originally envisaged are completed in the future.
