Mangaluru, Jan 17, 2018: State Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader has welcomed the Centre’s decision to cancel the subsidy given to Haj pilgrims. Speaking to reporters at Circuit House on January 17 Wednesday, Khader said the subsidy used to benefit the Air India and not the pilgrims as it was mandatory for the pilgrims to travel through Air India.
At the same time he said the issue of cancellation of Haj subsidy should not used to please someone.
Khader also stated that maximum number of Haj pilgrims have been provided opportunity this time. He further clarified that the Centre has no role to play in deciding the numbers as the quota is decided by the Saudi Arabia Government itself.
He said it was a matter of great pleasure that the State Food and Civil Supplies Department has won the Best Performance Award from the Centre.
Referring to the murder of Ilyas and the allegation of the hands of an influential minister, Khader requested not to politicize the issue. The Law will take its own course, he added.
