Mangaluru, Jan 03, 2019: State Minister for Urban Development and DK District in-charge Minister U T Khader has questioned the silence of the local MP Nalin Kumar Kateel regarding the merger of profit making Vijaya Bank having its roots in the district with the Gujarat based and loss making Bank of Baroda.
Speaking to reporters at Circuit House on January 3, Wednesday, Khader said Vijaya Bank has earned a profit of around Rs 200 crores while Bank of Baroda has incurred around Rs 3,000 crore loss. "It would have been better if Bank of Baroda was merged with Vijaya Bank. But the Prime Minister in order to save the Bank of his home state intends to merge Vijaya Bank with it. It is ironical that neither the local MP nor BJP leaders have raised voice against this," he added.
On the criticisms over the farm loan waiver of the state government, Khader said it would be better for the Centre to waive farm loans instead of resorting to criticisms.
