Khader promises Abbakka Bhavan at a cost of Rs 8 cr

Mangaluru, Feb 05, 2017:  Queen Abbakka who fought for the people  during the Portuguese invasion is an inspiration  to everyone for her valour and courage, said State Minister for  Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader.

Speaking after inaugurating the two-day long Veera Rani Abbakka Utsav -2017 at Asaigoli Kendra Maidan on February 4, Saturday under the aegis of the Department of Kannada and Culture and Veera Rani Abbakka Utsav Samithi he said   Abbakka Utsav would be organised in the coming years on a large scale like the Hampi and Sangolli Rayanna Utsav.

He also informed  on the occasion that in the days to come the government would come forward to construct a  Abbakka Bhavan at a cost of Rs 8 crores.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner  Dr K G Jagadeesha inaugurated the  cultural event while MUDA Chairman Suresh Ballal inaugurated different seminars.

Mangaluru Tahsildar Mahadevappa,  Sports Officer Pradeep D’Souza,  Konaje GP Chief Shaukat Ali,  Ullal Block Congress President Santosh Kumar Shetty,  Konkani Sahitya Academy President Roy Castelino, Abbakka Utsav Committee’s Working President  Dinaker Ullal, former MLA K Jayaram Shetty and others were present.

Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda and State Kannada and Culture Minster Umashree who were supposed to attend did not make it to the function.
