Kerosene-free M’lore, Ullal come November 1,2014

Mangalore, Sep 17, 2014 : Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology B Ramanath Rai, at a media conference September 16, said that kerosene-free Mangalore and Ullal TMC limits will become official on November 1.

 

 

 

He categorically, stated that every effort will being made to ensure that MCC and Ullal TMC area is kerosene-free from Octobe ’14. All those who are at present taking kerosene through their ration cards will be provided with LPG connections under various government schemes, he said.

D K  DC,  A B Ibrahim said that steps have been set in motion to arrange bank loans for the 7,500 card holders (BPL and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) to obtain LPG connections. In Mangalore City Corporation limits, the civic body will help SC/ST persons to obtain LPG connections under 22.75 per cent fund, for OBC under 7.25 per cent fund and for physically challenged under three per cent fund.  Arrangements will be made to provide loan for the rest from the SCDCC Bank and other nationalised banks.

The DC said those who are provided loans for this purpose can repay the same in monthly installments. The banks will provide loan if the people provide proof of ration card and bank accounts. He said a special two-day drive will be conducted on October 8 and 9, and October 18 and 19 to register names for LPG connections.

The camp will be held at Lalbagh, Surathkal, Kavoor and Ullal. Representatives from the civic body, gas distributors and banks will be at the counter and make arrangements to provide gas connections on the spot.

If the people produce the necessary documents of identity proof, then the connections will be issued immediately and door delivery of gas cylinder made on the following day. The representatives of gas supplying companies will also demonstrate on the use of gas stoves and precautionary measures to be taken in case of an emergency.  The Deputy Commissioner said that by Deepavali, all the households in Mangalore and Ullal would get LPG connections.

An oil company official said that for a gas connections, one will have to spend Rs 4,000— cylinder deposits (1,450), regulator deposit (Rs 150), two burner stove (Rs 1,600), rubber tube (Rs 190), cylinder refill (Rs 420) and administrative fee (Rs 145).

In Dakshina Kannada district, five litre of kerosene is supplied through PDS to ration card holders who do not have LPG connections.  Once, all the households are given LPG connections, then supply of kerosene to ration card holders will be discontinued.
