Mangaluru, June 09, 2017: The Kayyara Kinhanna Rai Award given in memory of the late poet and great Kannada activist, was conferred on H Chandrashekhar Kedilaya at a ceremony held at BEM educational institution at Carstreet on June 9, Friday under the aegis of Kalkura Pratishtana.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said the City Corporation would be happy to name any road or circle in the city after Kayyara Kinhanna Rai provided anyone makes an appeal in this direction. In such a case, the proposal would be put forth in the next Council meeting for approval, she added.
Veteran writer Erya Lakshminarayana Alva who also spoke, described Kayyara Kinhanna Rai as a towering personality who dedicated his life for the cause of Kannada land and literature.
Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President of the Foundation presided over the function.
Vijayalakshm B Shetty, President of Taluk Unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Santosh, Headmaster of BM institution, Kallige Taranath Shetty, lawyer, S V Bhat and others were present.
Prizes were awarded to the winners of Kayyara drawing competition on the occasion.
