Kateel inaugurates 6-month-long Beary Cultural and Art Fair

Mangalore, June 9: The Beary Art Forum of Mangalore, which is celebrating its 13th anniversary, inaugurated its six-month long Beary Cultural and Art Fair at Town Hall on June 9, Wednesday. The art and culture of the Beary community was illustrated by enacting Beary cultural legends. A large number of cultural and political leaders of DK witnessed daira, cheenikolu, and moharram pili vesha artists showcasing their talents.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the programme by placing a lamp on a huge urn and said that the Beary language and culture are inseparable parts of the region. He lauded the efforts of the organizers and stressed the need to preserve ancient customs and traditions. The minister also expressed his opinion that Tulu, Konkani, and Beary are 3 prominent streams of an inclusive culture, adding that Beary culture and art is in danger of extinction, and not the language. He added that Beary language will live forever, but there is a need to protect the declining Beary culture.

MLA U. T. Khader spoke on the occasion and promised the Beary artists and their patrons his support in the preservation of their culture. Later, Kateel and Khader together released a booklet on Beary Cultural and Art Fair. 

Chairman of Beary Art Forum Abdul Azeez Baikampady presided over the event. Haider Parthipady made the welcome and introductory speech. Husain Katipalla was the comperer. 

Yenepoyal Mohammed Kunhi, B. A. Mohammed Haneef, G. A. Bava, P. B. Abdul Razak, and Walter Nandalike were present for the programme.
