While Azhikode and nearby areas that had witnessed clashes between workers of the CPI(M) and the BJP on Saturday were incident-free on Sunday, reports of isolated incidents triggered fears of fresh violence.

BJP’s  Ranjith said the bomb hurled by suspected CPI(M) workers, who came on a motorcycle, hit his bedroom. He would have suffered injuries if the explosive had hit the windowpanes, he said. Bombs were hurled at the houses of BJP workers at nearby Thalikkavu and Chakkattupeedika late night.  Three BJP workers   were injured.

At Chavassery near Mattannur, a group of suspected BJP workers stormed into the house of a CPI(M) worker identified as Vinodan and beat up his wife, mother, and sister, who have been admitted to the AKG Hospital here. The CPI(M) observed hartal in Chavassery in protest.

Former BJP State president alleged that the CPI(M) workers who had attacked the house of a BJP worker took away gold ornaments and valuables.

CPI(M) district secretary P. Jayarajan said the BJP and the RSS workers were carrying out planned attacks against CPI(M) workers and their houses to disrupt peace.
