Kasargod : Students fall ill after consuming drugs laced chocolates

Kasargod, Mar 6, 2014 : At least  nine  students of a  school in Kasargod town fell ill on March 4, Tuesday after they consumed chocolates which were suspected to be laced with drugs. It is learnt the chocolates were distributed by one of the students on account of his birthday.

The same were purchased from a bakery close by the bus stand. Sources said the students began to complain of stomach pain and some even started vomiting.  The school authorities immediately rushed them to the hospital.

The chocolate packets named Cool Zone had  no mention of date of packing, expiry, price  and such other details. Neither was there the name of manufacturer as well as the place of manufacturing. The samples of the chocolates have been  sent for lab tests.

In the wake of the incident, police and health officials raided several bakeries and wholesale dealers and seized some banned chocolates as well as chocolates which have crossed the expiry date.

It is worth mentioning here that some time back police had seized pen cigarettes in some shops in the town.

The developments have  caused a lot of  anxiety among parents.
