Kasargod, Feb 8, 2016 : A 43 year old man has been sentenced to life by the Second Additional Sessions Court on February 8, Monday for murdering a 17 year old girl by slitting her throat. The murder of Fatimath Zuhara of Kumble Uluvaru had taken place on December 28, 2006.
The convict is Umar Byari. The court which had convicted him on February 4 had announced the quantum of punishment on Monday. The court has also slapped a penalty of Rs 50,000 on Umar.
Umar Byari was arrested the very next day of the crime by the police. Later when he was out on bail, he had escaped to Nasik where he was traced on August 28, 2014. It is learnt, Umar was in love with Zuhara who used to send food to him while he worked in a mosque close by her house.
However, when Zuhara failed to reciprocate to his love, an angered Umar had killed her by slitting her throat. The deceased girl was the daughter of Aboobakker-Nafisa couple. Forensic evidences in the case helped in establishing the crime committed by Umar.
