Kasargod, Aug 10,2015: Hundreds of mourners bid a tearful farewell to Nadoja Kayyara Kinhanna Rai, the centenarian writer, poet, freedom fighter and Kannada activist who passed away at his residence at Peradala on August 9, Sunday. Rai’s mortal remains were consigned to flames near his residence on August 10, Monday in the presence of a host of family members, friends, relatives, well-wishers and dignitaries. Durgaprasad Rai, the son of Kayyara lit the funeral pyre.
Among those present were Karnataka Ministers UT Khader, Ramanatha Rai, Umashree, Kerala Minister KC Joseph, senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary, Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty and Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj.
Speaking to media men later, Karnataka Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree said the government would think about setting up a memorial for Kayyara in association with Kerala Government in his hometown.
