Kasargod : Gold worth Rs 2 cr found hidden in fuel tank of imported car

Kasargod, Feb 15, 2016: As many as  14 gold chains of 24 carats purity worth Rs 2 crore were  recovered from the fuel tank of an imported car which had arrived from Dubai along with an consignment of other cars at Kochi Port. The gold weighing  7 kg was seized by customs officials.

One  Moidin Kunhi of Puttur in whose name the car was booked, has been arrested. However, he has claimed that the gold was smuggled in his car by   Hosadurga resident Shabbeer Ali (40) and  C P Ziyad (36) from Neeleshwar.

It is learnt, the latter had a business in Dubai. The houses of the two other accused have been raided by the customs officials. More details are awaited.
