Kasargod, Nov 16, 2015 : Murder of Kasargod : Police who are investigating into the case of murder of an elderly lady named Janaki Amma on November 12, have succeeded in arresting a person suspected to be involved in the murder of the woman.
The accused is Madhu (34) of Balla in Kanhangad. He was arrested in Dharmasthala and nearly 8 sovereigns of gold jewels belonging to the murdered woman Janaki Amma which was stolen and hidden by the accused in a forest area in Dharmasthala has been recovered.
The police informed that Madhu was after Janaki Amma who was leading a solitary life, asking her to give him some work. The woman had then asked him to pluck coconuts. Though Madhu arrived on November 12, Janaki Amma had realised that he had consumed alcohol and gave him Rs 100 asking him to go home. However, Madhu it is learnt demanded more and in the course of the argument he strangulated Janaki Amma with a shawl and escaped with her jewels weighing eight sovereigns.
The police traced him at Dharmasthala after tracking his cell phone.
It is learnt, the accused was caught stealing even a couple of times earlier and was beaten up by public.
