Kasargod: Absconding gold smuggler caught after 2 decades

Kasargod, Aprl 24, 2015:  Kasargod police have succeeded in arresting a person who was wanted in a gold smuggling case reported two decades ago.

The arrested person is Sainuddin Mohammad (50) from Bayaru Ponnangala in Uppala.  Sainuddin who was arrested in the year 1994 at the Mumbai Airport for a bid to smuggle gold worth Rs 41 lakh was absconding later on ever since he got bail.

Police sources said he  had fled the nation and remained there for almost eight years. The police who were tipped off regarding his return to hometown to attend the wedding of a relative, arrested  him at Kasargod.

The arrest was made by a police team led by Kasargod DySP Ranjith.

It has been gathered that Sainuddin will be entrusted to the custody of Mumbai cops for further investigation into the case.
