Kasargod, Oct 5, 2015 : It is relief at last with the Kasargod police arresting four persons including the prime accused in the case of the burglary at Chervattur branch of Vijaya Bank and also recovering the stolen gold. Three more accused are yet to be arrested.
Those arrested are S Sulaiman alias Ismail (45) of Kushalnagar Baithinahalli in Karnataka, Abdul Latif (34) of Balal Kallinchera in Hosadurga, Mubasheer (21) of Balla Kadappura in Kanhangad and Munaf (31) of Chengala Berka.
The theft was reported from the bank on September 27 and a cash of Rs 2.75 lakh and gold valued at Rs 4.96 crore was stolen.
Based on the revelations made by the arrested, the police seized gold hidden in sacks inside an unused well in the land belolnging to Moona Haji of Bera near Cherkala. Some of the stolen gold which were kept inside two pillow covers and hidden in the attic of a house at Cheruru Kadavu were also seized. The house belonged to the relative of one of the accused Munaf.
Police said the accused Abdul Latif was wanted in the case of heft of jewellery worth Rs 3 crore from the Rajadhani Jwellers on April 15, 2010.
Burglars arrested using Tower Dump technique : Police have informed that the Tower Dump technique came in handly in arresting the accused within a week of the crime. Police had tracked as many as 4000 mobile phone calls and with the help of the Tower Dump at Kannur Cyber Cell concentrated on four phone calls which ultimately helped them to zero in on the culprits.
Presently, search is on for the absconding accused namely Ashraf of Kodagu, Rajesh Murali from Idukki and another person.
The arrests were made by Kanhangad DySP Harischandra Naik, Neekleshwar Circle Inspecotr KE Premachandran and Kasargod Coastal Circle Inspector K Sunil Kumar under the leadership of SP Dr Srinivas and with help from Kasargod and Kannur Cyber Cells.
