Karwar Tragedy: Body of 6-year old retrieved, One victim still untraced

Karwar, Jan 24, 2019 : The continuing Search and Rescue Operations for the missing victims of Monday’s boat tragedy a Karwar resulted in the recovery of the body of one more victim, a six year old girl child late this evening.

The body of the girl, whose identity is as of yet not revealed, was spotted and retrieved by the crew of Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Amartya about 18 miles off Gokarn at about 6.30 p.m. With this the death toll has gone up to 15 and one person is still to be accounted for.


Meanwhile the new figures released by the district administration has set the total number persons involved in tragedy at 35 and not 34 and 33 as reported earlier. It has also raised the number of persons rescued alive to 19.


Meanwhile Coast Guard vessel Savitri Phule joined its fleet of two interceptor boats, two interceptor crafts, Mangalore based ship Amartya, and Goa based helicopter and Dornier aircraft which continued the search for the second day, according to Coast Guard sources.


It is hoped that the recovery of the last victim alive or dead in the coming days will bring a closure to the tragedy which shook Karwar.
