Karnataka reports 408 fresh COVID-19 cases, three deaths

Bengaluru, Jan 15, 2021:    Karnataka on Thursday reported 408 fresh coronavirus cases and three deaths taking the total infections to 9,29,960 and fatalities to 12,155 since the outbreak of the pandemic, the Health Department said.

The total number discharged so far were 9,09,058 and it included 564 today and 8,728 active cases with 187 patients in the ICU.

All the three deaths occurred in Bengaluru urban district alone while 141 infections were reported in the city.

Cumulatively, the city reported 3,93,814 infections, 4,355 deaths 3,83,897 who got discharged, including 255 today, and 5,561 active cases.

Barring Bengaluru, no other city reported more than 30 cases.

According to the health bulletin, 28 infections were reported in Dakshina Kannada, 23 in Mysuru, 20 in Dharwad, 19 each in Bengaluru rural and Chitradurga, 16 in Kodagu, 13 in Kalaburagi, 12 each in Ballari, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Uttara Kannada.

Cases were also reported in Bagalkote, Belagavi, Bidar, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, Davangere, Gadag, Kolar, Koppal, Mandya, Shivamogga, Tumakuru and Vijayapura.

A total of 29 districts recorded zero infections and there were no fatalities in Ramanagara.

With one more case, the number of patients infected with the UK strain on the coronavirus increased to 14, the health department said.

There were as many as 1,06,255 tests done today and they included 1,04,632 who took the RT-PCR and others, taking the total tests done so far to 1.57 crore, the department added.
