This will be part of the Ksheera Bhagya Scheme, where students are already provided milk in the morning for five days a week. From February 22, students will be given ragi malt on three days and milk on two days.

Bangarappa said, “The reason we are introducing ragi malt is because we want more students to come to government schools. This is in line with other interventions to encourage children to join government schools, like uniforms, shoes, etc.” This academic year, the Congress government also extended eggs, bananas and chikkis for class 9 and 10 in all government schools.

Bangarappa also announced that the government will soon start an initiative Our School Our Responsibility, a rechristened version of BJP’s earlier initiative Our School Our Contribution. “The chief minister will soon make an official announcement on the Our School Our Responsibility initiative. Primarily, this will focus on creating awareness around saving government schools, especially among the alumni,” said Bangarappa.
