Naushad Kashmiji MurderMangalore, July 15, 2011: The Karnataka High Court has ordered a CBI probe into the murder of , Mangalore-based advocate.

Justice Mohan Shantangowder ordered the probe after hearing a petition that sought a CBI probe into the murder and the alleged involved of four policemen in the case, which is now 2 years old.

Naushad Kashmiji was shot outside his apartment in Mangalore on April 9, 2009. Allegedly, he was warned by four police officers since he was representing Rasheed Malabari, an associate of underworld don Chota Shakeel.

Purshottam Poojary, Naushad’s senior, had lodged a complaint at the Pandeshwar Police Station accusing four police officers of being involved in the murder since he was allegedly warned by them on the same day of his murder.

When police investigation turned out to be ineffective, the wife of the accused filed a writ petition requesting a CBI probe into the matter.

At the hearing, the state government said that the CID is already investigating the matter. The petitioner, however, said that she wants a CBI inquiry into the case because four police officers are involved in the matter.

Justice Mohan Shantangowder, who heard the case, ruled that the case should be handed over to the CBI.
