Mangaluru, Jan 26, 2016:  Addressing media January 25, DK DC  Adoor B Ibrahim stated that  Dr Olinda Pereira, director of Vishwas Trust, Valencia, will be conferred the Karavali Honorary Award 2015-16 on Tuesday, January 26, that is Republic Day, for her immense contribution in the field of education and social service. He said, "Dr Olinda Pereira has been rendering her selfless services in the field of education and social sector for the last 60 long years.

Olinda Pereira...Dr Olinda Pereira was born on August 15, 1925. In 1961, she is the founder Principal of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya which offers graduate and post graduate courses. It was the first institution in Karnataka to offer courses in social work. As principal of this institution from 1961 to 1984, she motivated thousands of students to immerse into social service throughout the nation. With her foresight, vision and determination, she has contributed immensely to the cause of women and children.

As president of National Committee on Women, she did notable work and published works like ’Understanding Children’, ’Adjustment and its Correlation among Pre Adolescents’ and ’Domestic Workers’ Struggle’. She has been trained in women’s study organization of Philippines. She has worked as administrator in the provincial house of Nairobi, Kenya and worked as professor at Mak Master University in Hamilton, Canada. She has started city community development centre, family welfare organisation, kindergarten at Ullal and many other organisations in Mangaluru. She has been continuously giving directions to organisation for street children named ’Butterfly’ in Delhi and de-addication centre and women help organisation ’Shubada’ in Mangaluru.

At 91, she still continues to engage in social work. Through her social service organisation ’Vishwas’ started in 1999, she has been helping senior citizens. For senior citizens, she has started helpline number and a daycare centre. She has also built a village for senior citizens.  Acknowledging her great contribution to social service and education, it is  decided to honour her with this prestigious award. She will be awarded the Karavali Award on January 26 at 6.30 pm at Kadri Park in the presence of dignitaries, the DC said.
