Kalladka limps back to normalcy ; cops arrest 5 over group clashes

Bantwal, Apr 13, 2014: As many as five persons have been apprehended by the police in connection with the recent group clashes that were reported from the town of Kalladka. Meanwhile, Kalladka town has returned to normalcy on April 12, Saturday with all shops and commercial establishments open as usual.

The arrested are identified as Pushparaj, Rajesh, Siddique, Harris and Amith Poojari. All of them have been produced before court and remanded to judicial custody.

It may be recalled here that the communally sensitive town had witnessed group clashes on April 10, Thursday night and April 11. Bott;les and stones were hurled at each other leaving at least three injured and two vehicles damaged. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 were also clamped in the town following the clashes.

It is said that the police who also took into custody a Hindu activist Ramesh and PFI leader Zakariya later let them after it was found that they had nothing to do with the incident. However, the arrest of Zakaria led to the arrival of hundreds of PFI workers to the station demanding his release. Even BJP leaders met the SP asking him to release a few of the arrested.

Security has been tightened in Kalladka, BC Road and other nearby areas.
