Kakkinje elderly couple murder case : Prime accused arrested

Belthangady, Jan 15, 2016: Belthangady Police who are investigating into the recent case of murder of an elderly couple at their residence at Kakkinje, have reportedly arrested the main accused in the case. It is suspected that robbery was the intention behind the murder of the couple namely Varghese (94) and his wife Eliyamma (85) on January 11.

Though the police have not revealed the identity of the accused he is said to be from Gadag and is a construction worker at a  dam site near Kakkinje. It is suspected that the man who had noticed the old couple living by themselves had decided to eliminate them.

It is said he had visited the house of the couple on the pretext of enquiring about some address. When Varghese had come out of the house, the man is learnt to have attacked him, resulting in his death. It is believed that  he later hacked Eliyamma to death.

It has been reliably learnt that the man was arrested in Gadag and that he had hidden  the stolen gold at Hubballi. The police are likely to bring him to Belthangady after recovering the gold.
