Kadri ’Krishna Vesha Spardhe’ to be on a large scale this year

Mangaluru, Sep 03, 2015:  Adrenalin is running high with enthusiasm among a band of dedicated workers of Kalkura Foundation as they await the 32nd year of Krishna Vesha Spardhe that will be held on the precincts of Sri Kshetra Kadri on September 5.

Started with eight children in the first year, the event now attracts children - the youngest participant on record just 29-day-old to those up to 12-years. The number of contestants has spawned manifold times to cross the 2,500 mark last year. Competitions will be held at eight venues simultaneously from 1pm to 7pm. Cultural programmes will be held alongside from noon to 12am that will also mark the ’argya pradhana’ to Lord Krishna to mark Krishna Janmashtami, noted Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of the foundation.


Total categories as on date is 25 including six in Sri Krishna Varna vaibhava that entails painting and the rest in the Sri Krishna Vesha Spardhe or the Krishna look-alike competition.

The event, which has also diversified to several such competitions in this part of the world, with many being held under the aegis of the Foundation, has since become a national festival of the young and the old alike. 

There are many who come down from places from up country specifically to participate in it. About 150 daily pooja or traditional pooja items will be given to children participating in the quiz competition . All participants will be get a panchaloha idol of Udupi Kadagolu Krishna, and books related to Sri Krishna, certificate, photo of Lord Kadri Sri Manjunatha and sponsored prizes.
