The gallery was formally inaugurated on Sunday, 17th February, 2019 at 4.00 pm by former BBC producer and British author Adam Clapham. Purushotham Adve, renowned artist and curator was the guest of honour. Kadri Rocks Art Gallery is situated opposite Vijaya Clinic on Kadri Kambla Road, Mangalore. Clapham inaugurated the gallery by painting a few amateur strokes on an empty canvas, which was continued with more professional brush work by Purushotham Adve.

In his address to the gathering Adam Clapham observed a city like Mangalore needs more patronage for art. “Mangalore needs an exclusive place for artisans, where they can live and practice their craft. I’ve seen one such pottery unit in Pilikula, but perhaps in a place like Sultan Battery you could develop an exclusive centre. Of late foreign tourism is dropping in Karnataka and such efforts can attract tourists back,” he said.

Purushotham Adve congratulated Harsha D’souza the patron of the venture for dedicating his family home for the propagation of art and culture. He recalled that he too operated a similar venture in Mala village near Karkala and offered to collaborate with Kadri Rocks gallery for having joint projects.

The Art Camp was organized by Karavali Chitrakala Chavadi (R) and other Artists from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm. The participating artists were felicitated on the occasion.

Kadri Rocks Art Gallery is a passionate venture of Harsha D’souza. It is housed in a century old heritage house owned by his family for generations. The gallery displays painting and other works by professional and amateur artists and sculptors. It also has display and sale of pottery and earthenware, handicrafts and artisan products. The gallery will be open to visitors on all week days from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The premises will also be available for hosting art camps and art exhibitions, cultural and literary activities like book release functions, writers’ workshops etc.
