Kadaba, Nov 3, 2016 : Strong winds that lashed several areas of Siribagilu village including Manibhanda, Anila and other places late evening on Tuesday have wreaked havoc in the area with thousands of trees getting uprooted in a span of just a few minutes resulting in losses to the tune of several crores of rupees.
Vehicular traffic on the Gundya-Subrahmanya Road had come to a halt with innumerous trees on either sides of the road landing on the ground. Hundreds of electric poles too have suffered damages. MESCOM has estimated the loss at Rs 7 lakhs while the value of the uprooted trees is said to be several crores of rupees.
As mobile network was unavailable in the place where the incident took place, the incident came to the notice of the outside world much later. Authorities have said it may take at least one week to complete the task of clearing the tree branches from the area.
The house of a person named Purushottam Gowda Bailoli was completely destroyed after a tree rolled over the house. Luckily no one in the family was hurt. Similarly several houses too have suffered damages.
Puttur Tahsildar Anantha Shanker, ASP Rishyanth, Range Forest Officer Manjunath and several others visited the affected places.
