Puttur, Dec 26, 2014: A KSRTC sleeper bus on way to Udupi from Bengaluru plunged into the Netravathi River in Uppinangady during the wee hours of December 26, Friday injuring as many as 18 passengers.
The accident occurred at around 4.30 am when the bus suddenly rolled off the road into the river. Luckily for the passengers the portion of the river where the bus rolled into was dry.The front tyre of the bus also got detached during the mishap, the exact cause of which is not known.
The injured passengers have been shifted to hospitals. A few drivers of other buses and lorries which passed through that way came to know about the accident and then passed on the information to the Police Station. They also helped in rescuing the passengers.
Some of the injured passengers have been identified as Babanna Nayak, Benedict D’Souza, Raghunath Nayak, Smitha, Sarojamma, Vishwas, Prakash, Ratnamma, Sunil Machado, Stephania Machado, Muralidhar and Janet Machado.
Uppinangady police have registered a case.
