KS Hegde Hospital doctors perform rare kidney transplant

Mangalore, July 12, 2011: The departments of Nephro-Urology at K.S. Hegde Hospital, Deralakatte, Mangalore have successfully performed two kidney transplant operations for the first time.

Mrs. Shiney Joseph of Kerala has donated a kidney to her husband Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Mary Jones has donated a kidney to her daughter Beena (names have been changed to maintain confidentiality). Both the patients suffered from end stage kidney failure and have been on dialysis treatment for over a year.

With these surgeries, K.S. Hegde Hospital has reached yet another milestone. It has joined the league of very few elite hospitals offering this treatment in this part of the country. This treatment which is quite expensive in places like Bangaluru and Chennai has been made extremely affordable at K.S. Hegde Hospital. The hospital has a well equipped Nephrology and Urology departments with two specialists in each, a state of the art dialysis unit and a dedicated renal ICU along with multidisciplinary team including nurses with experience in transplant and a transplant co-ordinator.
